A woman in Boston swears that her loud screams and a personal defense alarm on her keychain helped scare away an aggressive intruder. According to a report from a local TV channel, the incident occurred when a stranger kicked in a locked gate behind a woman’s apartment. The woman heard the commotion and engaged the intruder from her back patio immediately as she saw him moving toward her apartment.
The woman first began screaming to attract attention and drive the man away. She also remembered the Personal Alarm, attached to her keychain, which emitted a loud, high-pitched noise that she believes prompted the intruder to flee. She said she’d purchased the alarm years earlier, but had never needed to use it ’til that moment. Since that first encounter, she’s reportedly used her Personal Alarm again, this time to scare off someone looking into her neighbors’ cars.
This case points out the need to have something available for personal protection, even at home. It’s not enough to just own a personal protection device; it has to be readily available to you when you need it. Many people carry a small Stun Gun, mini Pepper Spray canister or Personal Alarm on their keychain, Having a personal protection device at your fingertips and having the presence of mind to use it in an emergency can make all the difference as it did in this case.
